An important point of the landscape are the TRULLI - historical circular buildings of the farmers.

Here the amazing Pasta variations are created such as Orecchiette, Cavatelli, Fuselli, Casarecce and and and The apulische kitchen is considered as the famous Cucina mediterranea. Not to forget the Apulia`s wine well-known in the whole world and of course the Apulia`s olive oil.

History and architecture:
Far before 1,000 B.C. Apulia was settled by the Greeks. From 3. Cent. B.C. the settlement occurred through the Romans. During the reign of the Staufers Friedrich II who found here his second native country comes the famous Castel del Monte. On account of this history Apulia is a dream for all historical lovers and eager with architecture.

TRULLI is one of the most exceptional and unique buildings in Apulia . 200-300 years before, the inhabitants build their houses made of regional stone in such an extraordinary way
The walls are about 1m thick to provide a thermic isolation against hot and cold weather. Inside the truli, there are no doors, just columns and curtains which are used to divide the rooms. The only exception are the bathrooms which have doors to offer privacy.
Every year, the inhabitants brush their houses with lime which makes them look snow-white. This procedure is used for care and disinfection.
The Trullo has been from 17. bis 19. yearhundred the home of the peasants.. A single Trullo with his high pitched roof looks like a small feudal tower; the multitude of Trullis makes the landscape look like there would be a lot of miniature castels in a landscape, between the old and strong olive trees.

Every traveller, even the most inattentive contemporary, has the impression to enter into a timeless scenery - a scenery as it were of full magic. The same importance also attaches UNESCO to the Trullo:
Since 1996 the Trulli belong to the world cultural heritage of UNESCO. Once the Trulli served in winter of the family as a dwelling house and hay stack and in summer as a dwelling house and breadbasket. In the past it was usual that the families and the animals slept under a roof. On the roof point, above the physical-brown cone, white decorative keystones crown the cone point. These ornaments are holy and magic symbols: sometimes a ball, shown is sometimes a horizontal disc which symbolise the globe or the solar disc; however, pyramids and cone forms with four or five facets refer to the holy stone of the Baitulos - a cult to which primitive oriental people belonged; every now and then fertility symbols are also to be found. On newer Trulli there are also symbols of the later religions. The most famous city of the Trullis is Alberobello.

Also the multitude of Masseria , the mansions, are present in the landscape. The Masseria in Apulia are one of the most attractive from the whole Italy.
Those are lonely estates, some are from the 16th. und 17th. yearhundred. Once they were the seat for rich land owners, today they are often left or to Agriturismo (ital. Holidays on the land) converted.
